We arrived at our Brooklyn sublet close to 2AM Monday night. I ran to the building as Sandy waited with the cab, and was relieved when I turned the key and the lock opened. We hauled the suitcases, backpacks, and large plastic tubs containing our belongings inside, and walked upstairs to find our apartment. We were greeted by a sign taped to the door that said “Welcome Michael and Sandy.”

First stop the next morning was Sandy’s school. It was crazy to turn the corner and finally see the words FRENCH CULINARY INSTITUTE printed on a real building, after so many months of talking about it.

Sandy caught an early orientation session and I wandered around SoHo with my camera.
